His acclaimed debut album Riser (2017) made a major impact on the international jazz scene, while winning the prestigious Kenny Wheeler Jazz Prize helped propel his career. His follow-up, Dahab Days (2023), further established his distinctive voice as a guitarist, composer and bandleader. As a BBC New Generation Artist, Luft was commissioned to compose a guitar concerto, premiered with the BBC Concert Orchestra at the 2023 London Jazz Festival.

An ECM recording artist, Luft has collaborated with John Surman, Anders Jormin, Elina Duni, Aaron Parks, Avishai Cohen, Django Bates, Manu Katché, The Cinematic Orchestra and Ben Wendel. His ECM collaboration Lost Ships won Presto Music’s Jazz Recording of the Year in 2020.

Other accolades include the Silver Prize at the 2016 Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition, adjudicated by John McLaughlin. In 2026, Luft was named a Rising Star of Electric Guitar in DownBeat Magazine’s 74th Critics Poll, confirming his growing international reputation.

Thoughtfully Virtuosic Head-Turner

John Fordham, The Guardian (UK)

…a singular talent, a fluent improviser and a composer of catchy, earthy, infectiously upbeat tunes. There are echoes of west African high-life, English folk, indie rock and various strands of contemporary jazz, but Luft’s sound is joyously original, robust and in-your-face…
