Lighthouse Chief Executive, Elspeth McBain has joined the Advisory Board of the Executive Master’s in Leadership for the Creative Industries at Bayes Business School.
The qualification, a part-time, two-year Master’s degree, is designed to empower senior professionals working in the creative industries with the commercial, strategic, and operational skills needed to lead in today’s media and entertainment landscape.
“I am delighted to support Bayes Business School as they deliver this important course and play a part in shaping our future cultural leaders,” says Elspeth.
“In the digital era, leadership education is now essential across the full range of performing arts and I am particularly excited that students will work in mixed cohorts covering film, television, games, music and publishing.”
This year, the Arts Professional Arts Pay Survey, run with Baker Richards, found that nearly two-fifths of respondents cited deficient management as the most common significant obstacle to advancement in the arts, more so than financial limitations or lack of opportunities.
Delivered by Bayes Business School, a leading global business school and part of City, St George’s University of London, the Executive Master’s in Leadership for the Creative Industries is eligible for the Government’s Apprenticeship Levy, a tax on employers that can be used to fund professional education.
It means employees can have their fees for this innovative programme covered by the Levy and, in order to support freelancers not eligible for Levy funding, Bayes will also offer scholarships to widen participation among underrepresented groups.
Broadly, the Executive Master’s in Leadership for the Creative Industries is aimed at professionals upgrading business skills, entrepreneurs launching creative ventures, freelancers and consultants seeking strategic growth and mid- to senior professionals in film, television, games, theatre, performance, music, publishing, VFX, animation, CreaTech, cultural heritage, arts, fashion and sports media.
The programme, which is due to be launched at London’s FABRIC nightclub in January, starts in March and the recruitment process is already underway. To find out more please contact Ruth Velenski, Head of Corporate Development at Ruth.Velenski.1@city.ac.uk.
