Providing a range of opportunities for young people to explore creativity, build confidence, make friends and have fun through drama, Lighthouse Youth Theatre opens for its first intake in September with spaces available now.
Led by a team of friendly theatre making professionals, the Saturday sessions at Lighthouse Poole follow an ambitious programme that building towards an amazing opportunity to perform on stage in front of family and friends as part of an annual showcase.
Lighthouse Youth Theatre also provides access to exclusive ticket discounts, backstage tours and specialised workshops. Participants will be part of the vibrant creative community at Lighthouse with the chance to meet other people who love performing and theatre.
Participation is open – no experience is needed and there is no audition – and will be divided into three age groups: 5-7 years, 8-11 years and 12-15 years.
“Drama training not only builds confidence in young people, but also improves their communication skills, oracy, cognitive thinking; it’s hugely beneficial on lots of levels,” explains Youth Leader Becca Trent.
“The joy of it is not so much training young people to be on stage, as wonderful as that is, it’s about putting in place the building blocks that they can take on and use in other careers. Some of the young people I’ve worked with have become lawyers, teachers, all sorts of different careers.”
Lighthouse Youth Theatre has been launched by Lighthouse Poole with funding from the Arbor Vitae Foundation to secure the first three years of activity and support the longer-term aim of establishing a sustainable youth theatre programme.
