Lighthouse is delighted to welcome Dorset food champions The Salt Pig to take over the operation of its popular restaurant and café, renaming it The Artful Salt Pig at Lighthouse.
Over the years, the restaurant and café offer at Lighthouse has taken many different forms, but it has always played a vital role in the social life of the Poole community as a place to meet, enjoy a drink, food or both throughout the day and before shows.
Having opened in Wareham 18 years ago, The Salt Pig now also operates restaurants and cafés in Swanage, Studland, Chesil Beach, and at Poole Museum, as well as Salt Pig The Farm Putlake, Langton Matravers, which includes a cafe, attraction farm (with animal activities), soft play and seasonal campsite bringing together all elements of farming, food and education.
Its latest – and largest – addition, The Artful Salt Pig at Lighthouse, will open on Tuesday 1 September.
“As part of our strategy to develop and grow our business, while enabling us to focus on our core mission of artistic and community development, we are really excited to begin this new partnership with The Salt Pig,” says Elspeth McBain, Lighthouse Chief Executive.
“They are passionate about showcasing honest, locally produced food from Dorset’s farmers, fishermen and growers and that commitment to sustainability aligns perfectly with our own values. We know that they will bring a great offer and experience to our audiences and the arrival of The Artful Salt Pig at Lighthouse will enhance the food offer in the town.”
James and Becky Warren, who own The Salt Pig, are looking forward to being part of one of the UK’s largest regional arts centres.
“We’re excited to bring The Salt Pig to such an iconic venue in the heart of Poole,” they say. “As one of the cornerstones of life in Poole and the wider Dorset community, Lighthouse fits very well with our way of doing things.
“We are proud to work with an increasing number of local farmers, fishermen and producers, operating with conservation and nature in mind. From field to fork, sea to counter, provenance isn’t a marketing term for us it’s a responsibility.”
Working with executive chef Simon Lane, the existing restaurant and café team has transferred to The Salt Pig, ensuring the same friendly faces continue to provide a warm welcome to existing and new customers alike.
