Stars of the smash hit stage musical Rock & Roll Man wowed shoppers in the Dolphin Poole on Monday with a lively pop up concert of songs from the show ahead of its opening night on Tuesday at Lighthouse.

The story of Alan Freed, the 1950s disc jockey that gave rock & roll its name, Rock & Roll Man is hitting the UK for the first time after an off-Broadway run in the US and its stars – American idol hit Constantine Maroulis, who plays Alan Freed, and Dominique Scott (Jerry Lee Lewis and the show’s musical director), stopped shoppers in their tracks with 20-minute medley featuring rousing versions of classics like Great Balls of Fire and Yakety Yak, as well as original songs written for the show.

More than an innovator, Alan Freed shattered barriers, uniting artists and audiences across racial lines through the power of music. A fearless visionary and rebel, he sparked a cultural revolution that helped pave the way towards desegregation and transformed music history forever.

The cast also includes Jairus McClanahan as the flamboyant pioneer Little Richard, Joey James as Chuck Berry, Marquie Hairston as teen sensation Frankie Lymon, Cherece Richards R&B powerhouse LaVern Baker, and Joe Bence as Buddy Holly, with Mark Pearce as J Edgar Hoover.

With its electrifying cast, a vibrant set, amazing costumes, mind blowing musicianship, great songs and powerful storytelling, Rock & Roll Man is guaranteed to get audiences rockin’, rollin’ and up on their feet at Lighthouse this week.

Goodness, gracious, great balls of fire…!
