Towards Net Zero

We believe that the global environmental situation is of urgent concern and we are taking action now to reduce our environmental impact across all areas of our operation.

Our mission is to make Lighthouse a net zero venue by 2030, by changing what we do and using the arts to inspire change.

To achieve this, we are working with Michael Holden, a leading environmental consultant, to find innovative solutions to reducing our carbon footprint, across our entire energy infrastructure.

Our Journey To Net Zero

Our team are passionate about making meaningful and immediate changes to reduce our carbon footprint and continue the journey to net zero.

Our recent Green Wins include:

– A 93% energy saving by replacing traditional lighting with LEDs,  with a reduction of 23,541kg of carbon each year, equivalent to the amount absorbed by 2,354 trees.

– The installation of LED lighting in front of house and backstage areas, complemented by the strategic placement of movement sensors, saving 7.9 tonnes of carbon a year. (Made possible with a decarbonisation grant from BCP Council, along with funding through the Shared Prosperity Fund).

– Moving to FSC paper stock for our brochure, ensuring that we are supporting responsible forestry.

– Donating our pre-loved foyer furniture to local charities and community organisations.

– Ensuring that our website is hosted on servers that are powered by 100% renewable energy.

– Serving coffee that is roasted using 100% renewable energy.

– Offering a Cycle To Work scheme for our team.

Making A Creative Case For Change

We programme and support work that helps to drive environmental change and start crucial conversations.

– Our Wild Art Wonders summer camp, delivered by Coda Music and Arts Trust, gave young people the opportunity to create creatures, dens and alternative environments by using recycled materials and found objects.

– We collaborate with The Banff Film Festival, by screening work that celebrates adventure, the environment, mountain culture and the outdoors through film.

-Our Sanctuary programme supports artists in the region to create new work, encouraging work that deals with the climate emergency.  This included Dorsetborn’s Georgia and the Iceberg, a brand-new play for children about the environmental crisis on the South Georgia Islands.
