Movement classes to help take away the pain strain

Back

A supportive movement class for people living with chronic pain, Moving Well begins weekly sessions at Lighthouse Poole on Wednesday 18 November.

Guided by skilled dance artist Samantha Gillingham, who has a depth of experience leading movement for wellbeing and lifelong conditions such as Parkinson’s, MS and living with cancer, the sessions are co-produced by Lighthouse Poole and Pavilion Dance South West made possible by a Dorset Community Foundation and NHS Dorset Community Wellbeing & Mental Health Fund grant.

“Lighthouse and Pavilion Dance South West have worked together many times, but this is a first for Lighthouse in the field of creative health,” says Martha Earley, Creative Engagement Manager, Lighthouse.

“We’re delighted to be working with Lighthouse to bring Moving Well to the community, supporting people living with chronic pain to build confidence in movement and connection with others,” says Lisa Lort, Dance Producer for Wellbeing, Pavilion Dance South West.

The friendly classes offer an opportunity to explore movement, try things at your own pace and share laughter and connection along the way. Sessions run from 10-30-11.30am at Lighthouse, with a post-class social cuppa from 11.30am to noon.

Together, participants will:

  • Explore gentle, creative movement that works for you and your body.
  • Build confidence and feel braver about moving.
  • Connect with others who understand some of the challenges of living with persistent pain, with a warm invitation to stay post class for a free cuppa and a chat.
  • Enjoy a relaxed, supportive space where there is no pressure, but to come as you are and explore movement in whatever way feels right for you.

Moving Well classes are offered on a pay-what-you-can basis, with a choice of £3.50, £5.50 or £7.50. Simply choose the amount that works best for you.

Places can be booked now at Moving Well – A supportive movement class for people living with chronic pain – Lighthouse and on 01202 280000.
