Young Technicians (11-14)
An Easter holiday technical theatre course for 11-14 year olds.
Would you like to know more about the backstage and technical side of theatre?
Are you aged between 11-14?
The latest intake for Lighthouse’s highly-regarded Young Technicians courses is aimed at 11-14 year olds who might be considering careers in technical theatre.
Supported by funding from The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust, the intensive two-day course provides a real-world introduction to sound, lighting and stage management in a busy multi-venue arts centre.
“There is no right way to start a career in technical theatre,” says Young Technicians course leader James Smith.
“For some the answer is university, for others it could be an apprenticeship, or a job at their local theatre where they can build their skills. I’ve been in this industry since the age of 14 and this course is exactly what I wish had been available when I was starting out.
“Ultimately, all roads will end in the same place where the aim should be to produce good quality collaborative entertainment.”
Applicants must be available from 10am – 1pm on Tue 31 March and Wed 1 April 2026.
Why not then try our Young Technicians (13-19) course? Applications are now closed but will reopen again in the Autumn.
Many past participants go on to work here at Lighthouse or decide to jet off elsewhere to continue their career in technical theatre.
Dates:
- Tue 31 March
- Wed 1 April
Timings: Workshops will run between 10am – 1pm each day.
