Life in Dorset

Lighthouse Open Call Exhibition 2024

Free entry

Fri 12 Apr - Sun 11 May (excl. Fri 19 Apr)

In a Lighthouse first, our gallery has been opened to submissions from Dorset’s artistic community, giving them an opportunity to showcase their artwork.

Following the theme of ‘Life in Dorset’, we put out an open call across our social media platforms looking for a broad range of work from which this exhibition has been curated.

The theme was left open to interpretation, as we encouraged unique approaches in response – we were blown away by the sheer diversity and astounding time and effort put into each of the artworks that were submitted.

We were keen to encourage applicants to convey their own life and individual stories– what living in Dorset means to them. Our intention was to share an array of portrayals, ranging from more abstract pieces, to those with a focus on the realism and ‘blunter’ depictions of Life in Dorset. We are exhibiting 45 artworks in a range of mediums, from sculpture to screen printing.

Submissions were selected by Sally Winter, local artist and previous exhibitor in this gallery. Alongside Martha Earley, Creative Engagement Manager at Poole Lighthouse and Paul Newman, Creative Director of Dorset Visual Arts.

Opening times: Tue – Sat, 10am – 8pm.

Please note, the gallery will be closed for a private function on Fri 19 April.
