Hugo Svedberg:

Hugo Svedberg, born 2008 in London, began taking cello lessons at the age of six and currently studies with Adrian Brendel.

In 2024, Hugo won First Prize in the national ‘Pole Star Prize’ for Swedish Young Musicians and performed the Schumann Cello Concerto as soloist with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. Following his win, he represented Sweden competing in the ‘Eurovision Young Musicians’ in Norway, winning the Silver Medal performing Haydn Concerto in C with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra.

Hugo performed Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations with the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock at the 2023 Festspiele Mecklenburg Vorpommern and attended the HMT Rostock summer course, studying with Johannes Moser. He has participated in masterclasses with Torlief Thedéen at the Voksenåsen Summer Academy in Oslo and is part of their Talent Program. He has been selected to take part in the 2025 Gstaad String Academy, studying with Ivan Monighetti. Hugo is a scholarship holder of the Music Academy in Liechtenstein and takes part in the intensive weeks and activities held there.

Hugo’s recitals as part of the BBC Young Musician 2024 have been broadcast on BBC4 television and BBC Radio 3 and he is an EMCY artist as part of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth. He is a First Prizewinner of the Two Moors Festival, the Bromsgrove Senior Platform and the BSO Young Musician of the Year.

Hugo attends Canford School and is an academic and music scholar. This year he will perform locally as soloist with the Dorset County Orchestra, the Dorset Chamber Orchestra and the Nova Forresta Philharmonic.

In 2025, Hugo has been invited to perform as concerto soloist with orchestras including the Swedish Radio Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, the Västerås Sinfonietta, Jönköpings Sinfonietta, Musica Vitae, London Mozart Players and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Hugo plays a Dollenz cello kindly loaned to him by a generous sponsor through the Beares International Violin Society.

 Jesper Svedberg:

Swedish-born cellist Jesper Svedberg began his cello studies aged eight and he completed his Soloist Diploma in 1998 at the EdsbergInstitute of Music in Stockholm under the tutelage of Frans Helmersson and Torlief Thedeen.

He made his solo debut performing Schumann Cello Concerto with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and in 1999 continued his cello studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with Louise Hopkins. He graduated with a Masters Degree in Chamber Music in 2001 and was appointed Professor of Chamber Music at the University of Gothenburg where he stayed for 10 years.

As soloist, Jesper has performed with orchestras including the BBC Scottish Symphony, Copenhagen Philharmonic and the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra.

Jesper has appeared at festivals around the world, performing with musicians such as Arve Tellefsen, Truls Mork and Edgar Meyer.

Jesper is a founding member of the Kungsbacka Piano Trio, which took first prize in the 1999 Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition and was in 2000 selected for the BBC New Generation Artists Scheme. The trio has toured and performed all over the world in venues including Carnegie Hall, Berliner Philharmonie, Concertgebouw and Wigmore Hall. Live concert performances have been broadcast on both radio and television across Europe. The trio has recorded for the NAXOS and BIS labels with music including Schubert, Schumann, Mozart, Haydn and Chopin.

In 2010 Jesper was appointed Principal Cello with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Jesper plays a rare 1699 Grancino cello, kindly loaned by the Jarnaker Foundation.
