Bournemouth Symphony Chorus

At Wimborne Minster

Sun 22 Oct 2023

This concert is taking place to raise funds in support of Lighthouse Academy, which is the flagship programme for creative engagement at Lighthouse.

Lighthouse Academy offers schools, young people and artists a range of training and development opportunities as well as providing a safe space in which to explore ideas and build creative networks.

In the days leading up to Remembrance Day, the programme has been selected to provoke thoughts, reflections and memories.

Charles Wood  –  O Thou, the Central Orb
Edgar Bainton  –  And I Saw a New Heaven
Gavin Carr   –   No, Mother
Richard Blackford   –   Three Rossetti Songs (world
première) with Baritone solo & Cello
H Balfour Gardiner   –  Evening Hymn
C.H.H. Parry   –   Blest Pair of Sirens
John Rutter   –   Requiem

The Chorus has a longstanding connection with Bournemouth-born Parry’s Blest Pair of Sirens dating back to our origins as the Bournemouth Municipal Choir.

Richard Blackford originally wrote Echo, a setting of Christina Rossetti’s poem, in memory of Sandrey Date, a much respected and long serving Trustee, Music Advisor and member of the Bass Section. Richard has now extended this to form a suite of songs including further settings of Christina Rossetti poems: Up-Hill and A Hope Carol.

This event starts at 6pm
