Lighthouse is providing a rare opportunity for young people in Poole, and the wider South West region, to develop a career in the creative industries with places available on two training courses.
The Young Producers and Young Technicians (11-14) courses will provide the vital training and on-the-job experience to provide successful applicants with an entry point into a professional career, an opportunity that is rarely available outside of London.
Lighthouse is recruiting two enthusiastic and driven Young Producers for its 2026 programme.
A free-to-access work placement, the course will provide on-the-job experience of producing events as part of Poole Pride, as well as the Breakin’ Convention festival, and other events scheduled for the Spring season.
Young Producers will receive regular one-to-one mentorship from the Creative Engagement team.
“No previous work experience is required, but we want to meet applicants with a proven active interest in the creative industries,” says Creative Engagement Manager Martha Earley.
“Applicants should have a deep-rooted passion for arts and culture and be enthused by the opportunity to deliver a high-quality experience for our audiences.”
Applicants must be aged 18+ by the start of the placement and be available from April to June.
The latest intake for Lighthouse’s highly regarded Young Technicians courses is aimed at 11-14-year-olds who might be considering careers in technical theatre.
Supported by funding from The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust, the intensive three-day course provides a real-world introduction to sound, lighting and stage management in a busy multi-venue arts centre.
“There is no right way to start a career in technical theatre,” says Young Technicians course leader James Smith. “For some the answer is university, for others it could be an apprenticeship, or a job at their local theatre where they can build their skills. I’ve been in this industry since the age of 14 and this course is exactly what I wish had been available when I was starting out.
“Ultimately, all roads will end in the same place where the aim should be to produce good quality collaborative entertainment.”
Applicants must be available from 10am-noon on Monday 30 March, Tuesday 31 March and Wednesday 1 April.
