Technicolor

A Co-Production with the New Wolsey Theatre

Tue 2 Mar 2027

On an oppressively hot set in the middle of the Texan desert, the filming of the Hollywood epic, Giant, begins. A love affair, fuelled by insomnia, alcohol and jealousy, tragically cut short by the untimely death of James Dean.

Devised by Rhum + Clay

Writer: Stephen Laughton

Directors: Julian Spooner & Matt Wells.

1956. Texas. 104 degrees

Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean.

Using the language of 1950s cinema you’ll see the action both on and off camera. An uncomfortably intimate and dysfunctional triangle of love, sex and narcissism.

A story about the relationship between reality and construct. A dramatisation of this real-life moment where modern celebrity and its intoxicating promise of re-invention was born.

Constructed images, fragile egos and the tragic death of a young star combine in a cautionary tale about the seductive power of fame.

This is a brand new creation, from the team behind the smash hit The War of the Worlds and The Stage Award winning Mistero Buffo, and collaborating with writer Stephen Laughton (feature film – On the Line, & West End play – One Jewish Boy).

Warning: Technicolor includes adult themes and nudity

In Collaboration with National Theatre of Parramatta, Australia.

Rhum and Clay has a superb pedigree in producing striking physical theatre that is passionate, vibrant and challenging. It is storytelling at its finest.
