Fri 17 Oct 2025

A new programme of films at Lighthouse which our team loves the most.

Team Pics is a carefully curated selection of brilliant films which you don't often see in cinemas and we'll be screening one every month. Each screening will include a special introduction highlighting why the film has been chosen by one of our team.

Director: Barry Jenkins

Starring: Mahershala Ali, Naomie Harris & Trevante Rhodes

Our next Team Pics film is 2016 American coming of age drama Moonlight, which has been chosen by Nyah Boston-Shears from our Creative Engagement team.

This film is an adaptation of Tarell Alvin McCraney’s play, In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue. Produced by Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Adele Romanski, it focuses on the life of Chiron, an young, sensitive African-American boy living in Miami, Florida, who discovers his sexual orientation and struggles with his place in life and society.

‘The film is divided into three segments, each dealing with three different phases in Chiron’s life. Different actors bring to life the character of Chiron in each stage, grounding the fantasization as close to reality and humanly as possible… There aren’t many movies in the 21st century better than ‘Moonlight’ in terms of narrative structure and the marriage of sound and camera movements. The highly-praised flick also went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture over the much favoured La La Land.’ (The Cinemaholic)
