Team Pics: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Back

Lighthouse Team Pics is a monthly curated selection of brilliant films rarely shown in cinemas. Selected by a different member of the Lighthouse team each month, the screenings are open to the public and begin with a special introduction. Here, Development Co-ordinator George Rogers explains his choice - Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

I’ve been in my role for about three months now, but for a lot longer I was a steward here and I would sit here in the Cinema, or in one of the other venues, and show people to their seats.

So, it’s such a lovely opportunity to share a film with everyone here – particularly for that film to be Ferris Bueller’s Day Off because it means so much to me.

My mum, who’s here in the back row, bought me an ex-rental copy of this film from Blockbuster when I was off sick from school one day. I was genuinely sick by the way! Since then, I’ve watched it many, many times, often with my brother who unfortunately can’t be here tonight as he’s studying away in Newcastle, but I’m missing him a lot.

Between us, we can pretty much recite this film!

Eventually, thanks to my dad – who’s also here, we got the opportunity to travel to Chicago and immediately seized upon the opportunity to go to every location we possibly could from the film including going to watch the Cubs play! Honestly, I can’t think of any other film which is more life affirming and, in a light-hearted way, reminds you to appreciate life in the best way possible.

So, whether you’ve seen it 100 times like I have, or it’s your first time ever, I really can’t wait to share this with you all and I hope this serves as a great light-hearted reminder.

Thank you so much for joining me.
