“British Country Americana in its purest form”
– MATT SPRACKLEN – Nashville Meets London
THE GOUDIES (GOW-dees) are South Wales-based, husband and wife folk-country duo — Sam & Beth Goudie. Their emotionally articulate song writing and close harmonies have drawn comparison to the 70s Laurel Canyon sound – as well as Americana artists such as The Civil Wars, Watchhouse, Milk Carton Kids, The Staves, and Gillian Welch & David Rawlings.
From forming over housebound songwriting sessions and live-streamed ‘tiny shows’ in 2020, their music has been featured on BBC Radio Wales Welsh A-List & BBC Introducing, Absolute Radio Country, and stages at the British Country Music Festival and Big Church Festival.
BACKGROUND
Beth and Sam first met in the Cardiff music scene in 2008. After a few years of sharing songs and stages, in 2014 they married and began their life together. However, it would be another 7 years until The Goudies brought their solo projects together at the start of 2021.
Whilst the UK was locked down – they started a weekly live stream called ‘Tiny Show Tuesday, playing old songs and country covers to friends and family from their then home in Wimborne, Dorset. Their debut EP, When This is Over, was released in July 2021. Recorded with just a single microphone in a live room, the songs are an honest reflection on a time when everything was stripped away and we found out the things that matter. Later in 2021, they sold all of their furniture, gave back the keys to their house, packed up their guitars and kids in their van, and set off to find a new place called home.
That journey finally led them to California. However, in driving the backroads of Laurel Canyon and through the mountains of the North, they found they couldn’t stop thinking about where they first started – the beauty of the mountains, valleys, and coast of South Wales. After a year of exploring, The Goudies returned to South Wales, making their family home and reconnecting with their roots in the local music scene – steadily building a loyal following around their emotionally articulate song writing and moving live performances.
