Simon Spillett – saxophone

Robin Aspland – piano

Alec Dankworth – double bass

Pete Cater – drums

Electrifying tenor saxophonist and Lighthouse favourite Simon Spillett returns for his first performance in 4 years along with a fabulous, all-star band. Leader of both small and big jazz ensembles, Simon's high octane energy, soloing often at breakneck speed, is most likened to the legendary British sax player, Tubby Hayes, of whom he has written extensively. This set will see him perform some Tubby numbers alongside originals and standards by other jazz greats, from both sides of the Atlantic.

Simon has won several awards, including the tenor saxophone category of the British Jazz Awards (2011), Jazz Journal magazine's Critic's Choice CD of the Year (2009) Rising Star in the BBC Jazz Awards (2007) and Services to British Jazz in the 2016 British Jazz Awards. Celebrated jazz leaders and bands with whom he has worked have included Sir John Dankworth, Stan Tracey and The Ronnie Scott's Jazz Orchestra. Simon is also an authoritative jazz historian and author, and is carving out a second burgeoning career chronicling the history of the British jazz scene.
