OverviewThe Power House – Poole presents its first Open Exhibition and programme of events and activities. Celebrating the Old, Inspiring the New is affectionately and more simply known as The COIN Project. This is an artistic and joyful dip into the rich historical, cultural and natural heritage of Poole, offering local creatives to showcase their talent, while providing opportunities for the wider community to be involved, Power Up and get Creative!
The Power House - Poole project was set-up in 2017 by a small group of passionate community members living and working in Poole. Many were concerned by the gaps in facilities for creatives, youth provision, wellbeing support, and lack of affordable office space for business start-ups in Poole, and aspired to bring about change.
Through ongoing discussions, and listening to the community, a vision was formed to build a landmark building on the old Power Station site - now identified as the heart of Poole’s Regeneration Area. Fundamental to the success of the project is also collaboration with organisations and businesses to achieve a vibrant centre, focused on place-making that empowers the community, while being attractive for local and out of town visitors.
The Power House – Poole team is thrilled to be given the opportunity by Lighthouse, Poole to showcase their work and be a springboard for future ventures. After four years of visioning and consultation - inconveniently halted temporarily by a pandemic - The Power House welcomes you to their first ever arts event with community engagement and participation at its very core.
The theme, Celebrating the Old, Inspiring the New (affectionately and more simply known as The COIN Project) was created pre-Covid, to shine a light on Poole’s rich natural, historical, and cultural heritage and to give local talent an opportunity to showcase their work and inspire others in the community. And now, post-lockdown, it brings a wonderful opportunity for people to come together and share all that is good about Poole, while we work together to build a sustainable future for us all.
Our COIN Open exhibition is a collaborative project:
With grateful thanks to Lighthouse Poole for supporting us and providing this opportunity to use their gallery space. Our specially commissioned community project ‘Celebrating Hamworthy’ led by CoCreate is a key piece in the exhibition, and our appointed Curator Maureen La Frenais is working with our team to facilitate the exhibition.
The Power House hopes you enjoy our celebration of our community through the creative talent of Poole and the surrounding area, as we Power Up and get Creative!
