London-based power trio Vula Viel debut at Lighthouse opposite local favourites Thokozile in this intriguing double headerVula Viel’s unique sound is shaped around the gyilthe wooden xylophone of the Dagaare people from Upper West Ghana, mastered by Bex Burch on a 3 year residency there. New album, ‘What’s Not Enough About That’, is a fascinating mix of W. Africa meets raw post punk soundscapes, leading to Cheltenham Jazz and WOMAD festival appearances. Thokozile, too, were formed after an exchange visit to S Africa, and were pre-lockdown in big demand for festival and venue appearances, courtesy of their joyous African / world influenced jazz sound!
