A Song for Us celebrates our communities and the power of music to bring us together. As part of a national music project marking this historic time, Karen Wimhurst has written a new song inspired by the people of Dorset.
A Song for Dorset – When Time Lost Its Edge by Karen Wimhurst will be streamed online from Wednesday 4th August 2021, 12.30pm, at asongforus.org and will be available for 12 months. Performed by Palida Choir, VIVA! Dorchester Women’s Choir, Dorset County Hospital Staff Choir and students from Thomas Hardy School, Dorchester, this new song is a celebration of singers Dorset-wide!
The new song for Dorset has been commissioned alongside other new songs by Skinny Pelembe (South Yorkshire), This is the Kit (Bristol), Seth Lakeman (Devon), Gwenno (Cornwall) and Gavin Bryars (East Riding). With more to follow throughout the year.
Help create a music map of the country. Budding songsmiths are invited to upload their own songs to the website. Or anyone can simply share a favourite song that holds special meaning at this time.
