Spoken Word Function Room 1 & 2

Overview

The impact of life-changing technology on our society was never as great as that experienced by the Victorians with the introduction of the railway, the telegraph and industrialisation. These changes brought new challenges; which writers at the time discussed in ways very familiar to a modern audience.  Then as now, people struggled to find answers to the problems of a swiftly changing world. Researchers from the Diseases of Modern Life Group from the University of Oxford will lead you through their exploration of the growing problems the Victorian population faced and their attempts to find solutions.
