Overview

Director: Autumn de Wilde. Starring: Anya Taylor-Joy, Bill Nighy, Johnny Flynn, Miranda Hart, Rupert Graves, Josh O’Connor, Mia Goth. UK 2020.

The first feature from music video director and fashion photographer Autumn de Wilde, this period dramatisation of Jane Austen’s satirical novel Emma promises to be a feast for the eyes. Anya Taylor-Joy is the handsome, self-deluded Emma who lives in the town of Highbury with her curmudgeonly, well-do-do father (Nighy). The town being a sleepy little place, Emma has plenty of time to indulge her inclination for meddling in other peoples’ lives. Scripted by Booker-prize-winning novelist Eleanor Catton.
