Based on Penelope Fitzgerald’s 1978 novel, The Bookshop sees a small Suffolk town in 1959 stirred up by newcomer Florence Green (Emily Mortimer) starting up a bookshop. Facing hostility from the locals, Florence’s fortunes dwindle but one customer, reclusive book-lover Mr Brundish (Bill Nighy), takes her side.
