OverviewShowing the town in a completely new light, the first Light Up Poole festival of light art will completely transform the High Street from Falkland Square to the Quay.
Light Up Poole is a 3-day Light Art Festival set to illuminate Poole town centre from Thursday 15 – Saturday 17 February.
The festival features newly-commissioned interactive light and sound installations, projections, games and digital workshops created by artists locally, nationally and internationally in celebration of Poole’s cultural diversity, rich heritage and unique location.
The area between Falkland Square and the Quay will be completely transformed in a wonderland of lights that can be enjoyed by all ages, enabling you to see the town in a completely new light.
“Light Up Poole will show how something as simple as light can completely transform a place you think you know. It’s warm, it’s safe, people are drawn by it to come together and share the experience,” says Libby Battaglia of festival directors Audacious.
“It is a great opportunity for the people of Poole to really celebrate its growing reputation as a destination for artistic excellence, cultural learning and innovative collaborations between business and the arts.”
One of the highlights of the festival features Amuzo – the award-winning, Bournemouth-based team of game and app developers who launch their new smartphone game, FLO, at Light Up Poole. Visitors to Poole will be able to play the game as it is projected onto the side of Lighthouse.
Light Up Poole forms the first part of the 40th birthday celebrations for Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts. It is supported by Arts Council England, Poole BID, Lighthouse Poole, Bournemouth University, Artfulscribe, Soundstorm, Borough of Poole, Poole Museum, Quays Culture and Arts University Bournemouth.
There are three other ways you can get involved with the festival; Vlogshop - a vlogging workshop run by professionals, Sounds of Poole - a soundtrack masterclass for GCSE Music students and Film Poetry - a crash course in this creative medium. Click here to find out more.
