Overview

Director: Robin Campillo. Starring: Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, Arnaud Valois, Adèle Haenel. France 2018. 143 mins. French with English subtitles.

Robin Campillo’s (Eastern Boys) Cannes Grand Prix winner is a deft portrayal of the marginalised gay community during the AIDS epidemic. In Paris in the 1990s, HIV/AIDS activist group ACT UP defiantly battles for recognition. When two of its members begin a passionate relationship, the group’s death-defying fight for life, and freedom to love, is brought sharply into focus as political and personal are inextricably fused.
