Overview

Director: Terry George.
Starring: Oscar Isaac, Christian Bale, Charlotte Le Bon.
Spain/USA 2016. 133 mins.

In Constantinople, during the dying days of the Ottoman Empire, Armenian medical student Mikael (Isaac) falls for a French-educated Armenian girl, Ana (Le Bon), who is also the mistress of Chris (Bale), a fiery American journalist. Caught up in the onset of the Armenian genocide at the hands of the Ottomans, the love-struck pair face incredible dangers as they try to make a run for it.

To complicate matters further, Mikael is already engaged to Maral (Angela Sarafyan), a woman from his hometown in eastern Turkey. Writer/director Terry George (Hotel Rwanda) is no stranger to personal melodrama set against harrowing human tragedy, and in this case the four-pronged romantic predicament takes centre stage but is mightily informed by a devastating yet relatively unexplored period of history.

Contains moderate violence, occasional bloody images.
