Overview

Director: Terence Davies.
Starring: Cynthia Nixon, Jennifer Ehle, Duncan Duff, Keith Carradine.
UK/Belgium 2016. 125 mins.

Cynthia Nixon gives a searing, multifaceted performance as American poet Emily Dickinson in this biopic from acclaimed writer-director Terence Davies (The Deep Blue Sea, The House Of Mirth). Confined to her strictly Protestant Massachusetts home, and with little of her poetry published during her lifetime, Dickinson leads a constrained and conflicted life. The psychological intensity of the performances makes this an exhilarating watch.

Contains upsetting scenes of illness.
