If your experience at Lighthouse has been something that has enriched your life, you may be thinking about leaving a gift in your Will so that future generations will enjoy the life-enhancing power of the arts for years to come.

It’s tempting to think that talking about Wills is a gloomy subject and, for many of us, making a Will is so often something that is put off for another day.

In truth, making your Will is one of the most important and fulfilling things you can do as it enables you to remember, and make provision for, the people, and causes that are closest to your heart. Leaving a gift in your Will is one of the ways of ensuring that the values and the things you believe in go on.

If you have had happy experiences at Lighthouse and would like to ensure that others can have similar happy experiences for many years to come, perhaps you might think about leaving Lighthouse a gift in your Will.

As a charity, we depend upon the generosity of our patrons and supporters to enable us to continue to bring life-affirming live art to our community. The donations and the gifts in Wills we receive are essential if we are to continue to offer the best live arts experiences; nurture new talent and provide learning and participation opportunities for young people in our community.

Of course, friends and family come first when you make your Will but many people also take the opportunity to think about causes that are important to them and are close to their hearts.

Making a Will is not as complicated or as daunting as you might think, but it is important to get a few basic things right. For that reason, we would always recommend that you see a Solicitor to get your Will drawn up.

When you see a Solicitor, you could save time and money if you have already thought about a few things first:

  • Who do you want to appoint as your Executors and (if appropriate) guardians for your children?
  • Estimate the value of your estate (house, savings, possessions etc.) as this may be relevant for tax purposes
  • Decide who you want to leave gifts to in your Will. You may choose to specific items, cash or a percentage of your estate.
  • After you have provided for friends and family are there any other causes that you would like to leave something to?

If you do decide to leave Lighthouse a gift, please make sure that you use our formal name, which is Poole Arts Trust Limited, Charity registration no: 275961
