For this week’s #MondayMemories we’re casting our minds back to 2016 and the completion of our £5.3 million modernisation.

At the heart of life in Poole since it opened in 1978, some parts of our iconic building and its infrastructure haremained untouched for nearly 40 years until the first phase of works in summer 2015 and the main refurbishment that saw the building close from May to October 2016.

The upgrade included a new central main entrance with clear glass windows; improvements to the backstage area and facilities with improved dressing rooms, a new artists’ entrance, a Green Room (for the first time) and improved security; the brand-new Sherling Studio space; improved function rooms and the creation of new rehearsal and additional hire space; new plumbing throughout the building and upgraded air cooling and humidity control in the Concert Hall.

The work has made a massive difference to Lighthouse, securing our future as a world class arts organisation and venue capable of serving our beloved community with arts and culture for decades to come.
