Congratulations! To Libby Battaglia from Light Up Poole on her thoroughly deserved Outstanding Contribution to Tourism award at the recent Dorset Tourism Awards.

The surprise award announced on the night was in recognition of Light Up Poole’s phenomenal growth. Last year it brought more than 40,000 visitors to Poole in February to enjoy three nights of extraordinary digital light art spectacles in the town’s historic town centre, high street and waterfront. The festival engaged with more than 38 different countries with its learning and engagement programme.

“The award was a genuine surprise, I had no idea at all about it,’ says Libby. “It’s very flattering for me, but I think the real winners are all the artists, scientists, designers and young people who created the work that so many people were able to enjoy.

“We co-commissioned work with the Napa Lighted Art Festival in California and had footage from NASA projected on the side of St James’s Church – how mad is that?

“It means next year’s Light Up Poole will be even more ambitious with more new commissions and even closer links forged between arts, science and technology on the streets of Poole.”

Light Up Poole is produced by Libby’s company Audacious, a Lighthouse Moving Lights partner, and dedicated to creating high quality opportunities for the public to engage with light as a creative, interactive medium and to explore art, technology and innovation in interesting spaces.
