In what will be the biggest musical theatre production ever seen at Lighthouse, Poole’s centre for the arts, Hairspray is set to make its Dorset debut next year.

Tickets go on general sale on Friday for the week-long run from Monday 28 Febraury to Saturday 5 March 2022.

“The theatre industry is proving that you just can’t stop the beat as it roars back to life following the tumultuous past 18 months and it’s no different at Lighthouse as we’re very excited to be welcoming our biggest musical theatre production to date!” says Tim Colegate, Head of Programming at Lighthouse.

“With a tour schedule featuring some monolithic venues, this is a pretty exclusive week for Lighthouse and an opportunity to present one of the country’s best loved pieces of musical theatre in a relatively intimate setting.

“The show comes with a seven-piece band, a company of 50, so many costumes that we’re having to commandeer some additional space to house them, and it only just fits on our stage.”

After breaking box office records and delighting audiences in the West End, on Broadway and on the big screen since 1988, Hairspray is back on the road starring Brenda Edwards as Motormouth Maybelle and Norman Pace as Wilbur Turnblad.

A fun-filled, feel-good show, bursting with show-stopping numbers, dazzling costumes, and dizzying dance routines Hairspray features some of musical theatre’s biggest and best hit songs, including ‘Welcome to the 60s’, ‘You Can’t Stop The Beat’, ‘Good Morning Baltimore’ and so many more.

“It’s going to be the very definition of spectacular,” adds Tim. “It’s the hilarious, joyous, and uplifting musical that everyone needs right now!”
