What could be more glamorous than a red carpet world premiere of an eagerly anticipated new film staged in the heart of the community in which it was filmed.
With the exception of one scene, Lawrence After Arabia was filmed entirely in Dorset with a largely local cast and crew so the choice of Lighthouse as the venue for its world premiere was an easy one for writer-director-producer Mark J T Griffin.
So much so that he gifted the screening to Lighthouse as a fundraising event.
“By being here you are supporting arts in Dorset and helping this industry through some very difficult days,” he told the audience before the screening.
“This premiere is for Dorset, our way of giving something back to Dorset and the people that made us so welcome.”
Lighthouse Chief Executive Elspeth McBain thanked Mark for his generosity and reiterated the importance of the event.
“I want to thank you all for supporting the arts in Poole by turning out to share this moment and to thank Mark for so generously gifting his film to us this evening,” she said.
“A world premiere in Poole, how fabulous is that? Like so many venues Lighthouse has been through some very difficult times, but we made the decision very early on to keep supporting artists in whatever way we could. By supporting this film you are helping Lighthouse do what we do not only here but throughout Dorset and the wider community.”
