Releasing her debut album 'Heaven Knows' to critical acclaim in June 2022, Mica Millar has quickly become one of the brightest new stars of British Soul music
Picking up Jazz FM’s prestigious ‘Soul Act of The Year 2022’ award alongside a nomination for ‘Breakthrough Act of The Year’, Mica has also featured on the front covers of the iconic Blues & Soul Magazine, amidst international radio support from the likes of Trevor Nelson and Craig Charles and an array of five star reviews and acclaim everywhere from The Daily Express, Music Week, Jazzwise, Record Collector, The Official Charts, Echoes Magazine and WordPlay Magazine.
Selling out headline shows across the UK earlier this year including two consecutive nights at the capital’s infamous Jazz Cafe, Mica has also appeared at festivals including Love Supreme, Cambridge Club and Cheltenham Jazz Festival. The latter saw her perform a headline show with her seven-piece band, as well as a BBC 4 televised performance with The BBC Concert Orchestra.
She has since supported soul legend Lionel Richie for two consecutive nights at Blenheim Palace and Grammy Award Winning Artist Gregory Porter for three nights at The Royal Albert Hall and announced last week that she would be opening for Motown legend Gladys Knight during her seven-date UK farewell tour in June 2024 including shows at The Royal Albert Hall, London and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
Mica first appeared at EFG London Jazz Festival in 2022, performing her original songs arranged by Guy Barker for The BBC Concert Orchestra as part of its annual Opening Gala ‘Jazz Voice’ televised on BBC 4 – the 2022 show was hailed as the best in the gala’s history by multiple publications.
This year, Mica will perform a headline show at Union Chapel as part of the festival’s opening weekend on 11th November. Tickets are limited.
Her Autumn tour, taking place this November, will also see her take to the stages of the iconic Blue Note Jazz Club in Milan and Dortmund Concert Hall in Germany as well as additional shows in Germany and UK Dates in Newcastle, Leeds and Scotland.
Mastered at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, Mica’s debut album ‘Heaven Knows’ is self-written, arranged and produced, exploring themes of human nature, spirituality, love, oppression, inequality and empowerment, drawing inspiration from a plethora of vintage soundscapes, most notably, soul, blues, gospel and jazz.
Mica’s distinct vision is one that’s earned her renowned credibility within the industry and it’s her creativity, drive and attention to detail that has made ‘Heaven Knows’ the album it is – a timeless collection of modern soul showcasing a confident new artist, quickly establishing herself as a new and unique voice in British Jazz music.
