BRB Triple Bill
14-15 May 2013
Birmingham Royal Ballet returns to Lighthouse to present a brilliant programme of world-class dance.
Pineapple Poll, a comic-classic set to the toe-tapping tunes of Gilbert and Sullivan. When Captain Belaye arrives in town the female population collectively swoon and chief amongst them is Poll. Whilst avoiding the advances of Jasper the potboy she leads a band of love-lorn ladies in seeking the attention of the admirable officer. Will he notice that half his crew have shrunk and appear rather uncomfortable in their beards?
In contrast Lyric Pieces, jointly commissioned by International Dance Festival Birmingham 2012 and Birmingham Royal Ballet, from American choreographer Jessica Lang, is a beautiful, delicate work, with intriguing sets and costumes and set to the haunting piano music of Edvard Grieg.
Also included in the performance will be excerpts from some of the company’s favourite ballets including Giselle.
